2021: The Year In Review

We’re not going to lie, we’re a little sentimental in the studio at this time of year.

Many clients have been planning their home design for the full year in the lead up to Christmas, so quite often we are farewelling clients we’ve been working with for a year or more on their projects. However we love seeing the joy when we hand over a home at this time of year, and clients talk excitedly about where the Christmas tree is going, or how their relatives are going to love their new guest rooms.

Last week as we held our champagne infused gift wrapping class with gift expert Vivienne Anthon, the sentimentality of the year hit us. Although 2021 has undoubtedly had it’s challenges globally, we are grateful to have been able to share this year, and of course our most exciting moments from 2021 with you all.

So, in the spirit of reflection, here are a few of our favourite moments of 2021.

Opening the Design & Co Showroom

If you’ve known us for a while, you’d know that this was one of those dream moments when we opened our very first studio and showroom.

We now have a space that is filled to the brim with beautiful selections and decor, and we get to look at it every day! We love having our clients stop by for consults, and we having visitors pop in to the showroom to see what’s new and discuss all things interiors. Even more importantly, we reflect on those times we worked in our office with no windows (my spare bedroom!) and are eternally grateful for floor to ceiling windows - and lots of them!

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

Being superstars

We’re joking… we don’t love being on camera. But we do love talking about interiors to a captive audience and that is absolutely what we got to do several times this year. Although we love an interiors shoot featuring some beautiful homes more than one where we feature, we got to speak with some amazing people and talk all things design.

Some of us did enjoy the camera more than others (no points for guessing that Maggie was a BIG fan).
